MDG 8 seeks to develop a global partnership for development. It has many different targets are striving for the betterment of developing countries for future generations. We will be focusing on target A in Bangladesh which is to develop further an open, rule-based, predictable, non-discriminatory trading and financial system.
This target has very large affects on the health of the population of Bangladesh. If a country has more trade they are going to have more industry to create whatever it is they are trading. This causes more jobs to be created and more people will make more money. This allows them to buy food for their families and pay for more healthcare and be healthier.

Question: How does international trade relate to the health of the population of Bangladesh?
This target has very large affects on the health of the population of Bangladesh. If a country has more trade they are going to have more industry to create whatever it is they are trading. This causes more jobs to be created and more people will make more money. This allows them to buy food for their families and pay for more healthcare and be healthier.
Problems in Bangladesh
- They have irrational tariffs, quantitative restriction, and they don't have a unified exchange rate system. The high tariffs cause potential countries that would otherwise trade to not want to because they would have to pay high tariffs. most items that have tariffs on them are consumer items and are known to have tariff rates up to 463%. This causes items to be much more expensive than normal which means that many people in poverty cant afford these items and can affect the health of those people.
- Bangladesh also has a limited export network consisting mainly of clothing and diversifying into other products would help stabilize and improve their economy. The graph below shows this. This would require more jobs to create the products which would help create jobs and lift people out of poverty.

How are they doing
- From 1990 to 2008 Bangladesh was able to increase its trade-GDP ratio from 18% to 43%. This means that in 2008 43% of their GDP was from trade which shows that they are increasing their trade.
- Most of their exports come from the EU and the United States and consists mostly of machinery and textile while most of their imports come from china and India.
Possible Solutions
- diversify exports
- more efficient boarder procedure
- promote service exports
